Diversity is present everyone in the world, including here at UW Whitewater. When walking around campus is it is to see that everyone is different from one another in at least one way possible. Things that create diversity can be anything from our nationality, race, gender, or even our physical appearance. Each person is unique in some way. With that said our world is always changing and now more than ever the United States is becoming more and more diverse. Years ago Caucasians would have been considered the dominate nationality here in the United States, but now when we look at the people who make up the U.S. the Caucasians are just part of the makeup. It is predicted that within the next 25 years the Caucasians will probably be a minority with the Latin Americans taking over the top percentage. Often when people hear the word diversity they think of all the different kinds of people in world and their different cultures they possess. Many years ago diversity may have been thought of as a negative thought but with our changing world people have become to respect the different cultures that exist. When I think about diversity it fascinates me and it really makes me wonder how other peoples cultures work. I personally think its awesome that the United States and the world as a whole, are in a way, all starting to bind together. If no diversity existed the world would be plain and simply boring. Traveling to a different country would serve no purpose. Diversity spices up the world we live in!

This weeks topic for our blogs is our favorite brands. I like a lot of brands and I can’t say I’m a true diehard fan for just one specific brand but there is definitely some brands that I like more than others. When it comes to sporting equipment it is very difficult for me to pick just one specific brand that I like the best. Some of the brands that I use the most for sports are nike, adidas, and underarmour. These three I prefer over the others because I’ve had good experience with them in the past and I’m satified with the products they make. As for running shoes I must say that I prefer asics for day to day running shoes and nike shoes for spikes. When it comes to clothing I can truely say that I don’t have a favorite brand, I wear a little bit of everything. I wear anything from american eagle to just a regular t-shirt from nike. Finally I just want to talk about what drives me to buy from one company versus another. When picking a brand that I want to buy I look for a product that best fits my needs, gives me the most satisifaction, and I must feel like it has an advantage over the other similar products.

It has now been another two weeks since my previous post about my college transition. Not a whole lot has changed in these two weeks. I’m still continuing to have a very fun and enjoyable time here at UW-Whitewater. Over these two weeks I have built even stronger relationships with my friends and the others around me. All together my life here in Arey hall has been pretty awesome. Everyone on the floor as sort of blended into one big family of friends. In addition to that, I have also meet a lot of other great people in my classes, in other halls, and just around campus in general. Also, I am now starting to get into a somewhat rountine here at Whitewater and it now truly feels like home. Getting up for classes, studying, and simply my whole agenda of events is now starting to come natural. For the first time this semester I had some exams this week. Overall the exams didn’t seem too bad and were actually easier than I anticipated. The two exams I had this week were Math143 and World of the Arts. Also in these last two weeks I have been playing a lot of sports, lifting weights, and just getting to know the campus a little bit better. With all that said, these first 4 weeks of college have just flew by. With 4 weeks down, I’m looking forward to the next 4 weeks and the time there after. I’m looking forward to meeting even more people and sadly even taking more exams. I’m simply looking forward to what college throws at me next.

When talking about alcohol and drug abuse one of the first things most people thing of is college students. I’m not trying to say that other people don’t do drugs, but college students are definitely a group of people who fit into this category very well. Drugs and alcohol amoug college students is very common and somewhat expected. As we all know drugs and alcohol are illegal for most college students to use but it is evident that a lot of them use drugs way before the age of 21. When looking at a survey online, the survey reported that 88% of college students at the university had used drugs over the course of the year in 2008. Now with that said, I’m not here to sit and tell you that you should or shouldn’t do drugs but rather tell you about some of the negative effects that drug abuse can create. Some of the most common short term effects of drug abuse are impairment of judgement, lose of coordination to drive a car, aggressive behavior, domestic violence, slurred speech, disturbed sleep, vomiting, hangovers, etc. This list could be endless. Furthermore some common long term effects of alcohol abuse are damage to your vital organs, cancer, malnutrition and nutritional deficiencies, sexual dyfunctions, high blood pressure, lower resistance to disease, etc. If we were to look at the positive effects of alcohol abuse I don’t think we would be finding many results. To conclude this post I would just like to finish by saying if your going to go and use drugs and alcohol just use them wisely. Be smart when using drugs.

Transitioning into college is always a big step in every high schooler life and for some it can be somewhat scary. Leaving your hometown and moving away from your family and the world your so familar with is a tough step to take. This major step in my life has gone very well thus far. Ever since arriving here at Whitewater I have felt very much at home and welcomed by everyone I meet. My first two weeks here have been very enjoyable and I have learned a lot already. Though I’ve learned a lot I’m still adjusting to my new life at UW- Whitewater. WIth college comes more responiblity, different teachers, time management, more studying, bigger classes, and more difficult classes. The list could go on and on. College and high school definitely aren’t the same but so far I’ve enjoyed this new change in my life. Of course there’s always going to be things you miss from back home. Some of the things I miss are my family, mom’s cooking, friends, sleeping in a comfortable bed, easy classes ect. But at the same time college has provided me with a new life and a new opportunity. College is the gateway to my future life so why not make it the best college experience ever. Transitioning into college for some may be harder than for others but try and make it a positive expenience. My transition has been fantastic so far and I’m looking forward to a great year a Whitewater!
