Diversity

Diversity is everywhere. There is diversity in sports such as basketball where there are Caucasians, African Americans, and Chinese players. Players like Yao Ming are very important to the NBA. The NBA takes in several millions of dollars every year becuase ther are millions of people in China that watch Yao Ming play games in the NBA. This is a perfect example of diversity being very important in the business aspect of proffesional sports. There is diversity in music where you see rap, rock, and country music being very popular. Music brings out different cultures which appeals to a large group of people. As dealing with business, diversity is a key to success. What’s seperates some businesses from others is there ability to market to other countries. Business diversity can lead a business to enhance product development and just compete in global markets. Also, not marketing properly to other countries can ruin a company. If a product is marketed to countries and it offends the culture, that product will have a hard time selling. In business and in life in general, diversity is everywhere and will always be apart of our lives. The video below talks about diversity in business and how diversity impacts business.

Brand Name and Slogan

Our company is Milwaukee Ironworks. The brand name that i chose for this company is “The Gym.” I chose this as our brand name because it sounds to our potential customers as the best possible gym for them. It sounds like the gym that’s the total package and the one that’s going to give it’s customers the best results. The slogan i chose for our company is “better results.” Why i chose this as our slogan is because it sounds like you will recieve better results from our gym than any other gym out there. Our brand name and slogan will be the focal point for our success.

My two favorite brands are Nike and Adidas. I grew up playing multiple sports including baseball, football, and basketball. When i purchased basketball shoes or baseball/football cleats i always purchased either Nike or Adidas. The main reason that i bought Nike or Adidas was because of the advertisments on television. Athletes like Lebron James and Kobe Bryant had commercials on TV where they both advertised Nike. Other athletes like Kevin Garnett endorsed Adidas. Growing up and watching Nike and Adidas commercials made me wants to buy their products because of the big name athletes. I thought that if these athletes wore Nike and Adidas and played at a high level that i could do the same thing. Also, both of their slogans are very catchy. “Just Do It,” and “Impossible is Nothing” are both slogans that make you believe these two products are simply the best in the world. Also, when i buy both brands, i know that im going to get a good quality product that’s going to last me a long time. Even though sometimes i am going to pay a little more for Nike and Adidas, i know im getting a good quality product that will last a long time.

Drug and Alchohol Abuse

Thousands of people die every year from drug and alchohol abuse. It is a national issue that is ongoing. I believe this issue has to do with the group of friends you hang out with and how well your parents have raised you. A lot of kids grow up being surrounded by drugs because there parents do drugs. This most likely will lead to the kid getting involved in drugs and getting addicted on drugs for most of their lives. There is a lot of pressure for kids in high school to drink alchohol. This has to do with the group of people that kids hang out with. Drinking alchohol at a young age can raise the chance of having alchohol related problems later on in life. Drugs and alchohol can have a serious effect on a persons health including the brain and kidney. Drug and alchohol abuse is a serious problem that can ruin someone’s life and if a friend has a problem you need to get them help.

College transition Part 2

Hey this is Josh again with another update on how my college transition is going. Since my last post, college has kicked into high gear.  Classes here at Whitewater move at a much faster pace than my high school classes. As i mentioned before, the class workload is a lot. There are a lot of reading’s that i have to complete especially in my english and global perspectives class. All of the reading’s and homework that have been assigned in my classes can be overwhelming at times but i always find a way to get it done. Besides classes, i’ve been meeting more people and making many new friendships. Also in my free time i’ve been participating in flag football and lifting weights to keep me busy. I’ve also gone home a few times since i’ve been at Whitewater and it has been really nice to see my family. I’ve enjoyed Whitewater up to this point and im looking forward to the future.

College Transition Part 1

My transition from high school to college has been a smooth one. The most difficult part yet was on move in day. On move in day i wasen’t that familiar with campus and hardely knew anyone. But in just 2 weeks i have met a lot of new people and know my way around campus very well. I think the biggest difference between high school and college is the homework. There is a lot more homework given in college but also a lot more time to do it. Im starting to find out how to balance everything and manage my schedule so i don’t have to play catch up in any of my classes. Also being away from home is a little tough. Not being around my family has been pretty tough but i’ve learned to deal with it. The transition from high school to college has been challenging and fun at the same time. I can’t wait to finish up this school year and the next 3 years at UW-Whitewater.
