Diversity

I think diversity is a very important thing to have wherever you are.  Whether it is business, school, work, or sports it is always good to be diverse.  One of the main reasons I think is so that you get lots of different options and people bring different things to the table.  For example, in tennis we were a very diverse team.  Not so much in the sense of different cultures, but in the sense of what people can bring to the team.  Some of the guys on our team were harder workers then others; some had more talent and were able to teach others something.  While others were maybe better teammates and able to push others to not quit and keep pushing.  Lastly, from this team many others did other sports, and were able to have different skills.  I think this diversity translates into business like our tennis team operated.  Many people can bring different ideas and ways of doing things to the table, whether it is different ethnicities, cultures, or types of personalities.  Like our guest speaker talked about; some cultures maybe offended by certain things, and if a company is diverse it is able to meet more of the customers needs.YouTube Preview Image

Favorite Brand

To me my favorite brand is about style and it’s something I know and trust.  I am really into tennis, so there is a variety of brands to choose from for shoes, shirts, racquets, tennis balls, amongst other things.  My personal favorite brand is Wilson.  A lot of this has been influenced by seeing all the pro’s on TV wearing all these brands.  Also once I found my racquet I liked I’ve stuck with that brand because it’s what I know.  Wilson is a widely recognized brand by tennis players and a lot of non tennis people.  Wilson does not just focus on tennis however.  They are unique from other tennis brands because they have products in other sports and sports equipment.  Such as basketball, tennis, volleyball, soccer, and golf just to name a few.  Personally I recommend this brand to my friends because I know I always have a positive experience with it.  I love the style and designs of their products.  Also, Wilson is always coming out with new stuff for everything.  Another positive is that Wilson is worldwide, meaning their products can be found anywhere in the world.  So you don’t have to be a tennis fan or live in America to know what this brand is about.YouTube Preview Image

College Life to the Second

Posted on October 2nd, 2009 in Uncategorized by wuensteljg15

TGIF!!!  I have survived about five weeks of college now, so that’s a good sign I suppose.  I had my first real exams this week in math, WOTA, and Spanish.  Math was defiantly the hardest; the teachers don’t make it hard to fail like in high school.  I made sure to study for them, but they were still very difficult and I had a tough time with them.  I plan on catching up on a lot of homework this weekend.  The food is getting old pretty fast here, it seems like I keep having the same stuff over and over.  However, when I go to culvers or someplace like that it reminds me how amazing it is.  Family fest is this weekend so I am looking forward to that.  My family is going to come up and we’re just going to go to lunch.  I’m starting to get used to my schedule more, and have figured it out pretty well.  I have found out the hard way that I need to study more in-between classes so I’m not stuck doing it all at night when I don’t feel like doing it.

Drug Abuse

Posted on September 29th, 2009 in Uncategorized by wuensteljg15

Since I was in Elementary School I can remember being talked to about drugs.  After 18 years of living I have seen a lot of my friends try or do drugs on a regular basis.  After witnessing all of it I have come to the realization that drug abuse is a serious problem.

Seeing many of my friends do drugs it has always made me want to try them.  Like most people, I would say why not?  They’re doing it and they always tell me how great it is.  But then I think of the risks and do I really want that reputation of being a drug user?  I think for many people they see the beginning states when it’s still cool and fun.  But not until later in life, for example when they come back to their high school reunion do they see the effects.  At this point they can kind of see and say wow this person has done nothing with their life.  A great example of this I have seen is celebrity Steve-o who is known for his movies, Jackass.  He started small but eventually made it to some stuff people have never heard of called nitrous.  A documentary about him takes the viewer through the stages and how Steve-O progressively gets worse.  After all my experience with drug abuse I have learned it may start small but it will progressively get worse and worse.

I can remember sitting in DARE class (drug abuse resistance education) in elementary school.  More recently I can remember seeing my friends do drugs.  Overall I have seen and learned what a problem drug abuse can be.

College transition

Well what can I say?  College is definitely very different then high school.  Its a nice change to get away from everything that I have been used to for the past 18 years.  It is a great challenge and by far the hardest part is meeting new people and getting used to living somewhere else, but its a goot change.  The work load has been extremely heavy, especially math and spanish.  My typical day is classes from 9 til 3:30, throw lunch in there somewhere, relax at the dorm for a bit, go to dinner, play tennis for an hour or two, and finally do homework the rest of the night until about 1:00 in the morning or so.  I usually am able to catch up on weekends on my homework.  I think i’m going to start working harder instead of longer and try and cut down the distractions.  College is one of those things that throws you into the fire and you learn how to handle it or you get burned.  I have learned a lot about this so far.  For example, I have learned a lot of the stuff that I did in high school just isn’t going to cut it in college.  Such as, not paying attention in class, not doing homework until the day of or night before, or doing work just to get it done.  Another thing i have had to improve is my organization skills.  With high school it was a lot more clear cut when things were due.  But now with having classes on certain days I have to know what I need done that day and what I need to bring for that class.  Other then that I think I’ve been doing a pretty good job for all the adjustments that have to be made.
