Charlie Berens was a college student who showed you don’t have to be from a big city to be successful.

The Charlie Berens appearance was a very fun and informative class period. Most class periods are the same old drawn out lecture speeches but getting to listen to Charlie tell his story made class enjoyable. In my opinion, listening to someone like Charlie, who is successful in a very niche market, is better than just the normal lecture. Plus, Charlie Berens seemed like a very normal guy who went through the same things every college student goes through and he made it big. He gave me confidence I can achieve my most specific goals.

The main thing I liked about listening to Charlie speak was the importance he had on hard work. I have always believed that your dreams won’t just come to you, but you have to work for them, and Charlie reiterated that. He said something that really stuck with me and that was, “People get really good at things they don’t even like so why don’t you just use that energy to be really good at something you enjoy.”

The concept of what he said seems very simple, but I think it is something people often forget. For example, I used to work at a gas station, and I was extremely good at it to the point where I was going to be promoted to manager, but I hated my job. I would have rather spent that time becoming very good at something like podcasting, which is something I would love to do in my future.
