Call for Summer Intern Bloggers

Another spring semester is flying by. And now that we have reached Spring Break, we know the semester is nearing its end. Summer is just around the corner (keep that happy thought in mind despite the snow on the ground).

For the past three summers, I have sought out four UW-Whitewater students to write about their summer internship experiences. As many students’ summer internship searches come to their (hopefully successful) conclusions, it’s time to find a new group of summer intern bloggers.

Summer Intern Collage

Are you a UW-Whitewater student with an internship lined up for Summer 2013? Are you interested in sharing your experience with your fellow students? Will you be able to write three posts over the course of the summer, one each for June, July, and August? If your answers are Yes, Yes, and Yes, email me, Laura Morrow Jacobs, at MorrowL@uww.edu. Include the following information:

  • Your Name, Major, and Year in School
  • Internship Information: Position and Employer
  • Answer to the following question: Why are you interested in writing about your internship experience this summer?

Read the past three summers’ worth of “Confessions of a Summer Intern” posts here.

Confessions of a Summer Intern: Jay Brannan’s Journey

Jay Brannan, a Human Resource Management major/Communications minor at UW-Whitewater, spent his summer as a Human Resources Intern with an area nonprofit organization. Jay’s primary focus in his internship was the recruitment aspect of the human resources field.

One of the best outcomes of an internship experience is the affirmation that the career field you’ve chosen is a good fit. And for Jay, this internship did just that.

Confessions of a Summer Intern: Leah Beutler’s Journey

Leah Beutler, majoring in Spanish and Direct & Interactive Marketing at UW-Whitewater, started her summer as a Marketing Intern with the Madison Mallards. However, she didn’t end her summer there. Leah made the tough decision to leave the internship when she discovered it wasn’t the right fit for her.

Leah didn’t waste her summer after leaving her internship. She found a job at a restaurant and parlayed her job into some freelance work, creating a website and social media presence for the restaurant. And this fall, she will be taking on an internship with the UW-Whitewater Athletic Department, another great example of on-campus internship opportunities.

Confessions of a Summer Intern: Kaitlynn Parrott’s Journey

Kaitlynn Parrott, an Advertising and Graphic Design major, interned this summer with the James R. Connor University Center at UW-Whitewater. In case you didn’t know, there are many great internship opportunities with offices and departments across the UW-W campus. The University Center and Career & Leadership Development are just two examples of campus departments that offer internships.

Over the course of the summer, Kaitlynn grew as both a designer and a young professional. And she’s not done yet! Kaitlynn will continue her internship into the fall semester before graduating in December 2012.

Confessions of a Summer Intern: Amanda McLernon’s Journey

Amanda McLernon, a UW-Whitewater Marketing major, completed a Market Analyst Internship with a large company in the financial industry. This was her second internship with the company, and she jumped at the chance to return to San Antonio, Texas for another summer.

Amanda worked on several different projects. And at the end of her internship, she was chosen to be one of three interns to have a one-on-one with the company’s Chief Marketing Officer.
