Learn@UW has scheduled server maintenance for the UW System on Saturday, June 14th from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM (CT). During this timeframe, the Desire2Learn service will not be available, and outage pages will be posted to inform users who may attempt to access D2L.
The outage is expected to end during the scheduled end time, but we will update this news item in the event that the necessary maintenance takes longer than scheduled.
A network connectivity issue caused a brief outage in D2L today (6/4) from approximately 10:00 AM to 10:06 AM (CT). Users would have been unable to login to D2L and may have been “kicked out” of their session if already logged in.
The issue has been resolved, and as of 10:06 AM, users should be able to login to D2L. If you have any questions or concerns about this outage, please contact UW-W D2L Support.
UPDATE (2:00 PM): As of 2:00 PM today, June 5th, the D2L service has been restored. However, users may experience some occasional slowness with some tools. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact UW-W D2L Support.
UPDATE (9:50 AM): Learn@UW has again notified us that the work will extend the outage end time to 2:00 PM (CT) today, June 5th. D2L will still not be available during the extended timeframe.
UPDATE (8:45 AM): Learn@UW has notified us that the scheduled work for the upgrade is taking longer than expected, and the outage end time has been extended to 12:00 PM (CT) today, June 5th. D2L will still not be available during this extended timeframe. We apologize for the inconvenience this will cause, and we will update this news item with more information as we receive it.
ORIGINAL MESSAGE: This is a reminder that Desire2Learn is scheduled for an upgrade to version 10.3. The upgrade outage will start on Wednesday, June 4th, 2014 at 9:30 PM (CT) and end on Thursday, June 5th, 2014 at 10:30 AM (CT). During this timeframe, D2L will not be available. Please plan your course work accordingly.
Starting at approximately 9:40 AM this morning (5/27) and ending at approximately 11:15 AM, Desire2Learn experienced an intermittent service outage. Impact of this issue was inconsistent, and affected users may have experienced errors such as “HTTP/1.1 500 Server Error” or seen other anomalous behavior.
Desire2Learn is scheduled for an upgrade to version 10.3. The upgrade outage will start at 9:30 PM on Wednesday, June 4th, 2014 and end at 10:30 AM on Thursday, June 5th, 2014 (all times CT).
During this upgrade, D2L will NOT be available. This outage and upgrade will greatly affect Summer courses, so please plan your course work accordingly. It is also suggested that you end any dropboxes, quizzes, or other deadlines a half hour before the outage’s start time (i.e., 9:00 PM CT) if there are items due on that day.
In addition, Learn@UW has scheduled server maintenance on Saturday, June 14th from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Desire2Learn will not be accessible during this window.
We have a “What’s New” video for instructors that highlights some of the changes that are coming with the upgrade.
A “What’s New” wiki page is also available that covers version 10.3 tool changes in more detail, and you can visit that page here: https://geturl.uww.edu/1sk
The D2L eGrading process allows instructors to transfer final grades from their D2L Gradebook to their WINS Grade Roster in a few simple steps. This process is currently open and available for instructors to transfer their semester grades from D2L to WINS.
For more information on how to use this process, please see the following Instructional Resources wiki pages:
On Thursday, April 24th, Desire2Learn Inc. deployed Service Pack 16 to our D2L Learning Environment. This will be the last service pack that is applied to our D2L instance before the upgrade to version 10.3 in June.
In this latest service pack, several performance improvements were made to tools across the Learning Environment, including navigation, Quizzes, and Content. The following fixes were also included:
Dropbox: The Dropbox folder event log now correctly records the creation and deletion of Dropbox folders performed via the Content tool.
Document Viewer: PDF documents containing math equations with negative signs are now converted and displayed in Content or Dropbox correctly.
Calendar: If Content contains a topic that is linked to course objects that are not yet available (e.g., an “Inactive” quiz, a hidden Discussion forum, etc.), but have due dates set through Content, users no longer encounter an error when attempting to access the Content or Calendar tool.
On Thursday, March 27th, Desire2Learn Inc. deployed Service Pack 15 to our D2L learning environment. The following fixes were included in the service pack:
Dropbox: If a Dropbox folder is linked to Content, users can no longer submit a file to the Dropbox folder by remaining on the Content topic past the Dropbox folder end date when submissions are no longer allowed.
Import/Copy Course Components: Content in an HTML Content topic is no longer lost during import when the file contains embedded Quicklinks.
User Progress: Performance was improved for viewing the Dropbox tab for a user in User Progress.
On Thursday, March 20th, from midnight to 5:00 AM, there will be rolling outages to various UW-Whitewater IT services. These may include email, WINS, TouchNet, etc. All services should be up and running by 5:00 AM.
In addition, Learn@UW will be performing maintenance on March 20th during the weekly scheduled Thursday morning maintenance window (5:00 AM – 7:00 AM CT). During this window, D2L will NOT be available, so please plan your coursework accordingly.
