Conservation Presentation

As we concluded our conservation project, we realized in our final outcome how great of an impact we made in each school. The main points of our project have been simplified down to show what we learned and what we were trying to change.

Here our are accomplishments:

IF ELEMENTARY (SCHOOLS) DON’T TEACH CONSERVATION TO THEIR (STUDENTS) OR (REDUCE , REUSE, AND RECYCLE) THEIR RESOURCES LIKE (PAPER), (LIGHT BULBS),AND (OTHER ITEMS FOUND AROUND SCHOOLS) CAN CAUSE ALL KINDS OF PROBLEMS IN THE ENVIRONMENT AS WELL AS IN THE SCHOOL. WHEN NOT CONSERVING SCHOOL WILL HAVE AN INCREASE IN THE AMOUNT OF MONEY SPENT, AND THE ENVIRONMENT WILL DECREASE IN BIODIVERSITY.

CAUSE AND EFFECT:

GOOD SCHOOL—> —>DOESNT RECYCLE —> WILL SPEND MORE  CAUSING THE ENVIRONMENT TO  LOOK LIKE THIS—>.

GOOD SCHOOLS—>—> DOES RECYCLE —> WILL SPEND LESS —> CAUSING THE ENVIRONMENT TO LOOK LIKE THIS—>.

AT EACH SCHOOL,  (ACADEMY OF ACCELERATED LEARNING) AND  (WHITMAN ELEMENTARY) WE GAVE EACH STUDENT A SURVEY TO SEE WHAT THEY NEW ABOUT RECYCLING AND CONSERVATION.

WE FOUND BY GIVING SCHOOLS STRATEGIES TO HELP CONSERVE THEIR RESOURCES, THEY SPENT LESS MONEY AND FURTHER HELP THE ENVIRONMENT. AFTER THE SIX WEEKS OF IMPLEMENTING OUR TECHNIQUES, OUR GOALS WERE SUCCESSFULLY REACHED.

Update for Greenin’ up The Generation

Since our last blog we have made some changes, we are no longer implicating this project into Lincoln Elementary school, they were a little busy during testing. Jeanette and I took out project to schools in Milwaukee were we decided that they may need more of a need for it.

We went in front of classes and asks the students a few question about recycling and what they know about it. Some of the questions included:

-What is recycling

-Do they recycle at home/school

-Who has talked to them about recycling

-What does recycling do for the environment

-What does “going green” mean

-What are ways they can help the environment

We weren’t about the responses of the students, but were pleasantly surprised to find they were jumping out of their chairs to answer our questions. This show that the schools do promote helping the environment and going green. Many of the kids said they do recycle at home, and we were told that at school students have specific jobs for taking out the trash. Some kids were upset to say that they couldn’t recycle at home, they really liked the idea about it and try hard to recycle whenever possible. Overall we were very pleased at the fact that children were so knowledgeable about recycling and wanting to do it.

Next we talked to teachers about what they do for their school. We asked them about duplex printing, different garbage cans, scratch paper, turning on/off lights, using fresh air instead of air conditioning. In Whitman elementary school, duplex printing wasn’t always an option, not all of the printers don’t have that setting. The other school Academy of the Accelerated learning did use duplex printing, the principal was adamant about this being done. Conservation is harder at schools because school are more worried about the education of children. As of right now, our project is going great, we would love to hear more ideas about other schools and their efforts to try and conserve to improve the environment.

Thanks for all your help!

Jeanette and Lindsay

Plans for the Generation

Our idea is to help schools promote better education on how to recycle and to show students the benefits of recycling and how easy it is to do. We plan on going to Lincoln Elementary school to talk with faculty and students and come up with a new recycling plan.

- When we were in school recycling was promoted but not enforced like it should have been, now it will have a bigger impact

-If administrators and teacher would take the time to explain how recycling will effect the environment, students might become more aware the negative effects it has in the environment and may make them want to do something about it.

-Our plan is to ask Lincoln what they have done to promote recycling what procedures they use, and how effective they think they are. We also want to go into the classrooms and give a short presentation demonstrating what they can do to make an impact on the environment

-We think it is important to start at a younger age, so when they grow they become more environmentally friendly and dont have to think twice about recycling.

Our goals for recycling in schools:

-make sure all papers are printed double sided

-In classrooms make sure each garbage can is labeled with proper wastes to be put in to them (bottles, cans and plastic products in a green bin, paper products only in blue bin, and other waste in brown bin)

-Scrap paper should be reused for scratch problems or practicing handwriting

-encourage children to use both sides and keep papers that may have little writing on to be reused

-Encourage kids to bring recycling knowledge to home use

If anyone has anymore ideas that are simple but can impact the environment lets us know! :) Thanks

Hello world!
