If you are anything like me you are a planner. Or, as my boyfriend lovingly labels it, a schemer. I like to know what is going to happen at least 6 months ahead of time, especially for big life events like moving. I despise waiting until the last minute to make big decisions. But when it comes to apartment hunting, how soon should you really start looking? Rent.com compiled a timeline that is very useful for figuring out when to look for an apartment.
So first things first: you need to figure out employment, what you can afford and exactly when you want to move. After you have all of that settled, start checking out the market in the area and talk to landlords about availability about 2 to 3 months before you plan on signing for the apartment.
