It’s introduction time!
I’m Shawna, but you can call me Shawna. There’s not much to say about myself. I’m just your typical twenty-something: a raging feminist, a caffeine addict, and filled with existential dread.
This little thing here is my blog. It focuses on Cartoon Network’s popular animated series, Adventure Time. Specifically, this blog explores the feminist aspects (or lack thereof) of the show. Is this show perpetuating harmful facets of institutionalized oppression, or is it helping to call attention to and break down these forces? This blog will examine various episodes to help answer these and other questions.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the show, you are in the wrong place (unless, of course, you’re interested in the show and want to know more about it, in which case, welcome aboard). For those of you who are familiar with the show, you probably know how kickass this show truly is. And you, dear reader, are part of my audience. Because you’re reading a blog about feminism in Adventure Time, I assume that you are like me. Tell me reader, are you also a caffeine addicted feminist filled with existential dread? I’ll bet you are. I’ll bet you also have a Tumblr, you dork. Since you’re reading this, I can assume that you’re interested in feminism, Adventure Time, or both. Regardless of where you fall on this spectrum, I’m sure you’ll find something to entertain you here.
In case you haven’t caught on, the tone of this blog is very conversational and slightly abrasive. Although some complex concepts will be discussed in this blog, the language will remain casual and simple. There will be swear words scattered throughout the blog, because the patriarchy is infuriating (anyone under the age of 13: please go away).
So there’s a brief overview. Was it enough to pique your interest, or at least enough to deter you? Either way, make sure you tune in next week for a brief overview of some main characters, and what exactly makes them feminist characters!
