Hiking Your Way to Love

The season is changing, and that means that the leaves are changing colors and nature is looking better than ever. Seeing how colorful nature is in the fall is just as beautiful as love (cheesy alert) and what better way to see the leaves change than head out on a hike with your significant other. In Wisconsin, there are many places where you can go to hike and check out amazing views. To add to the adventure, packing snacks and packing a lunch would be the perfect date too. There are areas where you can set up a little picnic and relax after a long day of hiking! Don’t forget to also bring a backpack or some type of sling-back bag to put in waters, granola bars and a hiking map. « Nature Preserve » The Nature Preserve is located just right behind Whitewater that is a 2 mile walking trail. This trail is literally right in your backyard. You both can either drive there or walk there because it is that close to on, and off campus Whitewater. At the trail, you can discover views that you can’t get in other parts of Whitewater on the hills of the trail. You can oversee the rest of the landscape and the side of Whitewater campus that has the towers. « Kettle Moraine State Forest » This quaint forest is more beautiful and larger than the nature preserve, which will give you and your significant other more of a scenery than the nature preserve in Whitewater. The Kettle Moraine State Forest is in Eagle, WI that is only 30 minutes...

Friendsgiving

It is finally November and that means there are 8 more Fridays till Christmas! But who’s counting… So that also means we still must get through the second, best holiday of the year, which is Thanksgiving. If you love food, this is your holiday. For some college students, it may be their least favorite due to long travels to head home to see their family, or maybe they don’t have a choice to head home for the holidays and must stay in the empty town of Whitewater. This article is for the ones who are wanting to spend this holiday with their significant other, friends or can’t not head home for the holiday weekend. Heading to Walmart and making/buying a thanksgiving feast is the perfect way to spend the holidays since you are a poor college student with nowhere to go. When heading to Walmart: Instead of buying a turkey, buy the rotisserie chicken that is already made. It’s a great substitute to a large turkey you don’t have the time to cook. Buy multiple if you both are having a huge friendsgiving. Instead of making homemade stuffing, you can buy the microwavable kind instead of the oven kind – but we all know that oven cooked stuffing is the best and don’t forget the rolls! You can buy the McCormick Turkey “lump free” gravy for just $1.48. All you must do is just add one packet of the mix and a cup of water into a saucepan, stir, heat and serve! If you liked cranberries? Easy enough, Walmart has the canned cranberries and if there isn’t enough sauce...

This dessert is another easy snack for you and your boo to whip up on a movie night.  It only involved three ingredients; white chocolate, strawberries and mini chocolate chips. When Halloween comes around, ghosts are a symbol which mean that ghost decorations and costumes will be everywhere. This dessert can be something fun for the both of you, if you make it fun! Some movies that can go along with this theme of a ghost treat can be The Conjuring, The Shining or The Sixth Sense. « STRAWBERRY GHOSTS » INGREDIENTS 1 (16 oz) package Vanilla CANDIQUIK Coating 24 Fresh strawberries Mini chocolate chips DIRECTIONS Melt Candiquik in tray according to directions on package. Place a large piece of wax or parchment paper on a flat surface. Wild, Wild Love

Sometimes, staying in is something you both do way too much and want to get out to see a movie – you know, a change of environment! The closest movie theater, other than the Whitewater movie theater that plays three movies, is the Wildwood Theaters in Janesville. It’s only a 25 minute drive and offers over 16 movies! Recently, I did some research for what is playing in the theater that I would recommend for a date night. Now, I have not seen every movie at the movie theater to share with couples what movie they should go see and why. Going to a movie and figuring out for yourselves if you think you will like it or not and at the end, deciding how great it was, gives you something to talk about! It gives you some information about what kind of movies either of you prefer to watch “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” This action packed, humorous film will leave you on the edge of your seats! – Now that’s what I was thinking when I only viewed the trailer. Not only do you see how action-packed the trailer is, you also notice who’s in the film. You have Colin Firth, Taron Egerton and the best yet, Channing Tatum. This movie is a win, win for the both of you. It’s a thriller with attractive men in it – best combo in a movie if I do say so myself. “Spider-Man: Homecoming” Spider-Man has been the movie that keeps on coming. There’s a new one every few years with multiple main characters as Peter Parker, but this one...

Netflix & Chill

A movie night has always been an option in my books for a date night. You have dinner and watch a movie after – It’s the perfect way to spend a night with your boyfriend/girlfriend. The only problem is what do you watch?? There are so many different movies on Netflix that sometimes, you just can’t decide together on a happy medium. A few choices that I have seen and am recommending with maybe help you both decide what to watch on a night in.   The Classic – “Tommy Boy” “Tommy Boy” stars Chris Farley from Saturday Night Life.. What information do you need? Tommy and Richard, two characters that we have learned and grow to love from the movie “Tommy Boy”. It’s the perfect classic movie for any night in, depending on your humor. It’s a stupid humor with a hint of drama just to keep you engaged. It’s one of my all time favorite movie classics that shares a story about friendship, family and love. It’s a happy medium for you and your boyfriend because although it’s not a complete romance movie, it’s about the humorous adventure the character’s share. But what’s a humorous movie with a little romance, right?     The Romance – “Leap Year” “Leap Year” is a romance movie that I highly recommend to anyone searching on Netflix for a heart-warming love story. Not only is it romantic, there’s also a lot of smart-ass remarks from both the main characters, which will make it fun for YOU both to laugh about! Fate has brought these two characters together, and their adventure is...

Game On – Whitewater

If you and your significant other are tired of having the same routine each night, are competitive and want to mix it up a bit, this post is the perfect read. Being in a relationship causes you to see how each other acts in certain situations, such as sports. They, or you may be competitive and take a sport very seriously, whether you are playing the game or just watching it. In Whitewater, there is always a sporting event or activity happening each week/weekend. For this season, there is la-crosse, football, volleyball, basketball, soccer and many more. Football so far has been the one with the most attendance due to having the tailgates. An idea for a Saturday home game would be to have you and your boyfriend/girlfriend tailgate and cook out with friends and family. It’s a great way to meet everyone if you have not yet met all of their friends, or just an excuse to take a homework break and hang out with friends. If you enjoy other sports and want to check out the schedule of when games are happening and where at, you can visit the UW-Whitewater Athletics page! Another great activity you guys can do together is to join an intramural team. Intramurals are a great way to get to know each other and see how you guys are in a competitive environment. Do they cheer you on? Or do they get mad if you make a small mistake and react in a way you shouldn’t. If you’re still getting to know the person, this is a great way to see a different...

Game On – Madison & Milwaukee

Whitewater has a great sports program, a loud crowd to get you rowdy and tasty food, but heading out of town to get away from the school that causes some stress is a great way for the both of you to finally relax and enjoy yourselves at a sporting event outside of Whitewater. The two places that I have experienced sporting events at so far and grew up visiting are Madison and Milwaukee. The two closest, large cities near Whitewater! Madison is the first city you should visit for a night on the town and attending a UW-Madison sporting event. I have been to UW – Madison football games, basketball games and hockey games and have not had one bad experience from any of them. The crowd goes crazy for Wisconsin sports and enjoying that atmosphere together, really sparks an interest in the joy of others and the joy of being with each other. For football games, you can tailgate with family and friends and cook out, or you can head to State St. State St. is a beautiful place to head to before or after a game! It’s right near the capital and has a great view of the lake. Heading to a new restaurant could possibly be your new go to spot when heading to Madison or a bar that you guys visit could have a drink that you have never had before! It’s definitely an adventure when you head to Madison for the day or weekend. Milwaukee has beer, baseball and basketball, what more can you ask for! Milwaukee is another great city to visit for...

Fall is the kind of weather you that allows you to finally curl up by a fire with your boo, watch scary movies and eat as many apple cider donuts as you can in one sitting – because really, who can resist those delicious pastries. As many of you would probably rather eat all the donuts inside, there are so many fall activities outside of Whitewater you probably didn’t know existed. Here are a few ideas of you and your pumpkin can do during the fall season The first idea would be to attend pumpkin patches/ apple orchards. Skelly’s Farmers Market, located in Janesville, is the most popular pumpkin farm in the Rock County area. This farm offers many activities, including corn mazes, pumpkin picking, wagon rides around the farm and a great scenery for fall photos with your significant other.
