[RESOLVED] Inability to Access Course Files

[Update 2: RESOLVED]: The cause of the issue has been found and corrected. Further investigation is underway in regards to the issue. Starting from approximately 10:55 to 11:07 am, users may have experienced an issue accessing course files or submitting files to the dropbox. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused.

[Update 1]: Technologists are investigating and working to resolve the issue with the D2L service. Symptoms of the problem include missing images in the course navigation bar, files not loading when clicking them in Content, and the inability to access or upload files to the Dropbox.

Quizzing, Discussions, News and other areas are not affected.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.

[Original Post]: There have been reports of users unable to access to course files or view some images in D2L. Support and D2L technicians are aware of this problem, it has been reported, and we are working to rectify it.

Updates will be posted here as we get them.

[RESOLVED] Some Users Experienceing Errors on Login (8/29)

[UPDATE 1: RESOLVED, 12:06pm] The D2L service is now functioning normally. One application server running D2L was not functioning properly and has been removed. Users should no longer be receiving errors. If problems persist, contact UW-W D2L Support or call the UW-Madison DoIT Helpdesk, +1 (608) 264-4357 [weekends only].

[ORIGINAL POST] UW-W D2L Support has received a few reports of problems from people not being able to login with error messages indicating that the server is too busy, or there is too much network traffic. We have contacted service technicians who are working to resolve the problem.

If you experience the problem, you should attempt to access D2L from a different computer, as this problem does not appear to be affecting all servers running D2L. More information will be posted here as it becomes available.

Service Maintenance/Outage Announcement (8/25, 8/27)

Desire2Learn@UWW will be unavailable during the following times for maintenance:

  • Tuesday, August 25th, 5:00 – 7:00 am
  • Thursday, August 27th, 5:00 – 7:00 am (during the weekly scheduled maintenance window)

During these times, D2L may be unavailable. We apologize for the short notice.

Upgrade Complete (8/19 to 8/20)

From 10:00 pm, Wednesday August 19th until 10:00 am, Thursday, August 20th, D2L was unavailable for upgrades to the latest version of the D2L Learning Environment software in preparation for the Fall semester. The upgrade has been completed as planned. If you have further questions or concerns, contact UW-W D2L Support.

Upgrade Announcement

D2L will be unavailable for an upgrade to the Desire2Learn LE software to the latest version in preparation for the Fall semester.

Wednesday, August 19, 10:00 pm to
Thursday, August 20, 10:00 am.

This upgrade is to resolve a number of software problems. In addition, some cosmetic and organizational changes will be occurring, which will change the look and feel of D2L slightly. This upgrade is occurring after the end of the semester, so the affect on course work should be minimal. Please plan your course and development work accordingly.

[RESOLVED] Some experiencing ‘Service Unavailable’ messages at login

[RESOLVED] From approximately 7:40 to approximately 9:30 am, some users may have experienced Service Unavailable errors on login. One of the servers hosting D2L was not functioning properly and has been removed. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused.

[UPDATE 1] Technicians at UW-Madison are looking at the issue and are working to resolve it. UW-W D2L Support is estimating 30 minutes to repair time. Note that not all users are experiencing this issue, and if you are, try using a different computer. You will likely be able to enter.

[Original post] We are aware that some users are reporting ‘Service Unavailable’ errors when trying to access D2L. We are investigating and will provide more information when it becomes available.

NOTICE:Network maintenance may affect D2L access

The following network maintenance may affect access to D2L during the following times:

Friday August 14th, between 7:00 pm and 11:00 pm, for up to 15 minutes (for on-campus users only, no access to D2L web site).

Sunday, August 16th, from 12:00 midnight to 8:00 am, intermittently for maintenance being performed on UW-Madison’s network. People may not be able to login to D2L.
