Designing Assignments with a Critical Eye to Evidence

  • At a time when evidence is questioned and the words “fake news” are utter by students, there is value in creating assignments that incorporate critical thinking and evaluation of research. While the definition of what is creditable and accurate evidence varies by discipline, intentionally articulating what a discipline considers appropriate methods and credible evidence contributes to the scholarly dialogue and to students’ understanding of research and evidence. This session will discuss the importance of evaluating information and provide examples of adapting existing assignments to provide opportunities for students to analyze evidence.
