REMINDER:
COMMUNITY and RESISTANCE
What defines your community? Who are you, within your community? Has
your community changed you? Have you changed your community? What other
forces have changed your community? What cultures and traditions do you
have in your community?
How do you define resistance? When is resistance worthwhile? When is it
futile? Have you even been part of any organized resistance? Who
inspires your resistance? What ways have you or your community resisted
the dominant powers?
We want to hear about it.
Essays, articles, interviews, reviews, drawings, sketches, word art,
photography and any creative expression that has social, political or
cultural content on the themes.
We are especially interested in increasing our presentation of essays,
editorials, drawings and comics. Additionally, we welcome poetry in
Spanish and Arabic.
Early submissions are appreciated and receive more attention, so get
yours in soon!
Below are our guidelines, deadlines and other pertinent information.
Thanks!

SUBMIT! SUBMIT! SUBMIT!
Articles/Essays/Commentaries/Reviews: These fall in 3 categories. Essays
and editorials should be 200-800 words and should cover creative or
non-mainstream thinking, community building, political activism or other
challenging topics or new ideas. More in-depth articles and essays can
go up to 1400 words. Accompanying graphics or photos are encouraged, but
not necessary. Reviews should be short: 100-250 words. We prefer
submissions via email as Word documents.
Poetry/Word Art/Rants: Any style is accepted, but we reserve the right
to reformat any poetry in style, font or size. Poetry in Spanish, Arabic
or other languages is acceptable. Submit via email as a Word document.
Word limit per poem is 350. Total word limit of up to 3 submitted poems
is 800.
Drawings/Comics/Sketches/Photographs/Graphics/Doodles: B&W images
please! Submit files by email or hard copies. Original work is not
returned. Also, we love small sketches and doodles—send us pages of them!
GUIDELINES
1. Read the section above for the type of work you are submitting. Make
sure your submissions correspond to one of our themes. Submissions not
on theme are not considered. If it’s unclear, you may want to explain,
but please don’t name your piece after our theme. Everyone does it and
looking at 50 things all with the same name gets tedious.
2. Submit your work via email or hard copy as listed above. Put your
name on your work. Please adhere to word limits. If you send via email,
please make the subject line the title of your piece (or your first
piece, if multiple are submitted).
3. Only 3 submissions per person per issue.
4. All submissions must be previously unpublished (or include the names
of where previously published). Rights revert to author upon publication.
5. Include a 40-word bio/listing for our Directory. Creative and quirky
listings are encouraged. Include your contact info please.
6. If you send via email, please include your phone number.
7. If you send via snail mail, include an email address or phone number
so we can contact you. We do not return any submitted work via mail,
even with S.A.S.E.
Directory: Contributors are entitled to a 40-word listing/bio in the
issue in which they are published. We encourage creative listings.
Payment: Because NH is a DIY, volunteer publication, we pay in the form
of copies, but require contributors to send in stamps or checks to cover
postage costs. Contributors outside the U.S. must pay postage for delivery.
Submissions should be sent to:

Get Out the Vote 2008
AIGA – Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Arts Board
“AIGA invites designers from across the United States to create nonpartisan posters—and YouTube submissions—that inspire the American public to participate in the electoral process and vote for a presidential candidate in the 2008 general election. For the next month, Wisconsin Arts Board, in partnership with AIGA-Wisconsin, will include one of AIGA’s designs in our newsletter, but you can participate by browsing the Get Out the Vote online gallery and downloading your own favorite.”
