IMPORTANT PRIORITY REGISTRATION INFORMATION
SPRING 2009 ART STUDIO COURSE PRE-REGISTRATION
Priority Registration Event: The Art Department will hold an early registration session in its ongoing efforts to help majors and minors get into the studio classes they need to graduate in a timely fashion. Pre-registration for Spring 2009 art studios will be held in Room 2069 in the CA building (2-D Studio) on Wednesday, October 22, 2008. An official Art Department activity excuse form will be provided if you will miss a class due to participation in this event. This once-a-semester event is your ONLY opportunity to reserve space in studio classes. This is a very important date, so please mark your calendars. Art faculty will allow students to leave their class long enough to register, then return to class. It is your responsibility to notify your instructor of the time you need to leave class for registration.
Advising Before the Event
**General Advising Convocation session held in CA2069 at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2008. The Convocation is highly recommended for all Art majors, minors and related majors, especially for students who may be new to the program
In order to gain access to Priority Registration, and to remove your advising hold for WINS registration, MAJORS AND MINORS must complete one of the following advising options and receive an Advising Receipt before they will be allowed to enter the Priority Registration event:
1) Individual Advising: Sign up and meet with your assigned advisor from October 8-22, 2008. Advisors will post a sign-up sheet on their office doors. If you do not know who your advisor is, please check WINS or the board across from the Art Office. All declared Art major/minor students and their respective advisors are listed there.
2) Walk-in Advising – during Priority Registration. Room CA2048. Be advised: this option will be offered to individuals on a first-come/first-served basis and could delay your timely admittance into the Priority Registration area. It is highly recommended that this option be selected only when option #1 could not be met.
The Priority Registration Event
All Art Majors and Art Minors who wish to take Art Studio courses in the Spring 2009 semester MUST attend the Priority Registration Event. All participants (majors and minors) MUST bring their Advising Receipt to be admitted. Art majors and minors - you are no longer required to bring a copy of your AR – we will have a report with all majors and minors and their credit standing to determine what time you will be allowed to pre-register. See schedule below – check your AR on WINS if you are unsure of your credit standing. Your credit standing includes all credits taken to date including the Fall 2008 semester.
Schedule for Admission to the Priority Registration Event
You will be served based on class ranking and total credits to date. Current (2008-2009) scholarship students and all BFA students who have passed the Entry Portfolio Review and have been accepted into the BFA Program, will receive advanced registration status. You will be asked to present your Advising Receipt to enter the priority registration. Please bring your student ID for verification. A line will be formed outside Room CA2069 for each appropriate class ranking and time slot, beginning with the highest credit total and ending with the lowest. If you declared your Art major after January 2006, and you have completed 2D, 3D and Drawing 1, but you have not yet participated in the Foundations Portfolio review, you will not be allowed to register for any 300-level or higher courses!
9:00–9:30 BFA and Scholarship Students (2008-2009 scholarships ONLY)
9:30–10:45 Seniors (90+ credits INCLUDING this semester)

Include your name, ID, courses desired and sections (if any section works, say so!).
We hope this effort will continue to make course access fair and helpful. We appreciate your cooperation. Women of Metal
September 9 – October 18
Panel discussion and reception Tuesday, September 9th
Women of Metal, is an exhibition of artwork by first and second generation women jewelers/metalsmiths who have a professional and educational relationship to metals as an arts discipline in Wisconsin. The goals of the Women of Metal Project are to celebrate the art work of women jewelers/metalsmiths in Wisconsin; to examine their work - its evolution and influence in the context of historic/contemporary metals practices; to explore and reveal relationships between art and craft practices; to consider the role of education and mentorship in the professional development of women in metals; to increase public awareness of the contributions of these artists to the cultural history of Wisconsin; and to inspire further scholarship into the lives and work of these pioneering artists. To achieve these goals, project coordinators Teresa Faris and Susan Messer have developed a number of related educational projects and public activities concurrent with the exhibition including: a panel presentation, an illustrated lecture and a 2-day studio workshop.
