Hello,
For those of you that have printmaking as part of your programs, our 8th print biennial is coming up. If you email me at csullivan@exchange.csuchico.edu I would be happy to send a call for entries form.

Janet Turner (1914-1988) taught at California State University, Chico from 1959 to 1981. She developed printmaking on our campus as well as her national and international reputation as a printmaker during her lifetime. Because she felt students should also have the experience of actual works of art she left her personal print collection of 3,476 prints that span six centuries and at least 40 countries to CSU, Chico. It is used for a calendar of exhibitions, individual research, art class study, curatorial studies, intern training and is a regional museum sited on an educational campus.

Her foresight resulted in a highly used collection and I would be interested to know others of you that, on your campus, might have similar collections of any type.

Best,

“BRAZILIAN ESSENCES”
CALL FOR ENTRIES
DEADLINE – POSTMARKED JULY 1ST, 2009

Walker’s Point Center for the Arts, a non-profit art center based in Milwaukee, WI invites Brazilian artists living and working in the US to apply for the show scheduled for the early Spring of 2010.

“What is your Brazilian Essence?” is perhaps a provocative question at the time when identities are increasingly hybrid and fluid. Certainly, it is easier to speak of “essences” rather than a unified, singular essence of any kind. This is particularly true of Brazil, the country which cultural heritage is as rich and diverse as the vast geographic area it spans. Yet, the question remains whether Brazilian heritage still imbues contemporary art works with any particular, volatile qualities. Against homogenizing tendencies of the global mainstream, we seek flavors and notes that strike unique and specific chords.

Open to all media. Please submit the following materials:
• Artist Statement
• Résumé
• 10 samples of work on a CD with images in JPG format at 300dpi, numbered 1 through 10 with your name (i.e. 1_MariaSilva). Please include a list of numbered works on a separate sheet: title, media, dimensions, date, and a brief description of each work.
• Or, a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 samples of time-based work, no longer than 3 minutes each, and a brief description of each work on a separate sheet.

Please send all the materials to:
Dorota Biczel Nelson
PR/Marketing/Membership Coordinator
Walker’s Point Center for the Arts
911 W. National Ave.

The materials will not be returned. If you would like your materials back, please include SASE.

Walker’s Point Center for the Arts is one of the Milwaukee’s oldest, artist-based organizations. Founded in 1987, WPCA has been consistently advocating for democratic and innovative approaches to art. WPCA is committed to supporting visual and performing arts and learning in a multicultural environment. The gallery features 8-10 diverse exhibitions annually. The Center fosters creativity in children through innovative education and encourages audience development and artistic talent with a diverse blend of programming.
