Neighborhood Electric Vehicle

Recently, UW-Whitewater purchased our first Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV), and I had the opportunity to take it for a spin. Made by e-ride Industries, our UW-W NEV is powered by nine 8-volt batteries. It has a maximum speed of 25 mph and a maximum range of 55 miles. If you compared the NEV to fossil-fueled vehicles, the NEV greenhouse gas emissions are 70% less and annual costs to operate are 80% less. For more information about e-ride NEV, go to

I thought you might enjoy some photos taken that day.

Higher Education Day

Tuesday, October 7th, is Higher Education Day in Wisconsin.  Higher Education Day is an opportunity to consider life goals and the role that education can play in reaching those goals.  This is the third year that Wisconsin’s Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, State Treasurer, and Superintendent of Public Instruction have collaborated for this important celebration.  I would call your attending to the Higher Education Day website http://highereducationday.wi.gov/.  There you can find more information about Higher Education Day.
