Tuesday, October 7th, is Higher Education Day in Wisconsin. Higher Education Day is an opportunity to consider life goals and the role that education can play in reaching those goals. This is the third year that Wisconsin’s Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, State Treasurer, and Superintendent of Public Instruction have collaborated for this important celebration. I would call your attending to the Higher Education Day website http://highereducationday.wi.gov/. There you can find more information about Higher Education Day.
On Tuesday, September 16th, I attended the first punt, pass, and kick competition held to celebrate the beginning of the annual United Way Campaigns. I thought you’d enjoy looking at some of the photos taken that day.
Yesterday, I attended two on-campus celebrations. I was pleased with the newly remodeled bookstore, and enjoyed the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “The Lay of the Land,” sculpted by artist Susan Falkman, was installed just north of the University Center.
I thought you’d be interested in these photos, and I hope you have a chance to stop by the new bookstore and the sculpture.
The much anticipated Women of Metal exhibit will begin on Tuesday, September 9th, in the Crossman Gallery. Bruce Pepich, Executive Director and Curator of Collections at the Racine Art Museum and Charles A. Wustum Museum of Art will speak at 6:00 p.m. The opening of the exhibit will be at 7:00 p.m. The exhibit will be open through October 18th. I encourage you all to come to the exhibit which features women metalsmiths, all with ties to Wisconsin.
Club U Dub Dub, the 2008 Fall Convocation for new freshmen celebrated with Thursday’s spirit rally and tradition-building event, R U Purple. I’ve attached some pictures from the event that began in the DLK/Kachel Fieldhouse, followed by a march to Perkins Stadium, a rally in the stadium, and the painting of Warhawk Drive. I thought you’d enjoy looking at some pictures of the event.
