Monthly Archive for March, 2009
On March 12th, we had the opportunity to visit the Haggerty Museum of Art at Marquette University to see the work of Professor Xiaohong Zhang as part of an exhibit “Current Tendencies: Ten Artists from Wisconsin. We enjoyed the exhibit, especially seeing the attention that Xiaohong Zhang’s work received.
On March 12th, we also had the chance to attend the UW-Whitewater Forensics Team’s Annual Showcase. We saw wonderful presentations by Sarah Kanitz, Amanda Finch, Kati Anderson, Brandi Kelley and Steph Schubring. As a special treat, alums Michael and Shauna Wessely presented a reading from an original work.
From March 12th through 14th, the National Intercollegiate Wheelchair Basketball Tournament is being held in Gym 1 of the Williams Center. The Rolling Warhawks won their first round game and are into the semifinals.
I am holding a Listening Session today, Tuesday, March 10, 1:00-2:00 p.m. in the University Center, Room 275B. While there is no specific agenda, part of the session will focus on the state budget. We certainly welcome any other questions and issues you wish to discuss. I hope you can join us.
Dear Campus Community,
I invite you to join me for a budget forum at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 3 in the Summers Auditorium. While we are still awaiting some specifics, the budget picture is coming into view. I don’t think it will surprise anyone that we are facing difficult challenges in the coming months. I want to assure you that we will do everything possible to maintain a quality educational experience for our students. We will also move forward on some specific initiatives that will ultimately benefit the state’s economy by preparing more people for the jobs of the future.
On Tuesday, I will talk about the budget and its impact on the UW-Whitewater campus. I will open up the discussion for your questions.
We will videotape the discussion and post it on the Web site for those of you who can’t attend.
Again, I understand these uncertain times are stressful. But we are a campus that rallies to solve problems. We will come together again to do what the governor and the legislature ask of us.
I look forward to seeing you Tuesday.
Sincerely,
Richard Telfer
Chancellor
