Transformational Greek Life Cafe Alumni Gathering

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to meet with a group of committed fraternity and sorority alumni and advisors to discuss ways the Greek system and UW-Whitewater can be better and stronger.  This meeting, called a “Transformational Greek Life Café Alumni Gathering,” is part of a national effort, “Call for Values Congruence.”  In the spring of 2007, then-Chancellor Saunders appointed a Blue Ribbon Committeee to meet with Greek chapters on campus, with Greek alumni, with faculty and staff, and with students not involved in the Greek system.  The Blue Ribbon Committee helped UW-Whitewater participate in an Assessment Pilot process as part of a national Fraternity and Sorority Coalition Assessment Project.

The results of this national assessment project for UW-Whitewater can be seen on the Leadership Development website (http://www.uww.edu/leaderdev/greek/assessment.php).  The results have also been shared with current members and alumni of Greek organizations on campus.  Addition input is also being sought.

The discussion concerned ways to move forward, focusing on five key outcomes:

1.                  Developing Positive Interpersonal Relationships

2.                  Leadership Development

3.                  Strengthening Social IQ, Citizenship, Service Learning

4.                  Graduation of Members

5.                  Effective Campus Interface to and Support of the Fraternity and Sorority Community

Thanks to all the Greek alumni and advisors who participated.  I found the session to be interesting and insightful.  I hope we can continue to work together to strengthen the Greek community at UW-Whitewater and at the same time strengthen UW-Whitewater.
