Record Football Attendance

On Saturday, October 4, UW-Whitewater set a record for attendance at Perkins Stadium for a football game with 11,028.   These pictures show the attendance at a game in 2005, as well as the attendance on October 4th.

Higher Education Day

Tuesday, October 7th, is Higher Education Day in Wisconsin.  Higher Education Day is an opportunity to consider life goals and the role that education can play in reaching those goals.  This is the third year that Wisconsin’s Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, State Treasurer, and Superintendent of Public Instruction have collaborated for this important celebration.  I would call your attending to the Higher Education Day website http://highereducationday.wi.gov/.  There you can find more information about Higher Education Day.

Punt, Pass and Kick Competition

On Tuesday, September 16th, I attended the first punt, pass, and kick competition held to celebrate the beginning of the annual United Way Campaigns. I thought you’d enjoy looking at some of the photos taken that day.

Sculpture Ribbon-Cutting & Bookstore Dedication Ceremonies

Yesterday, I attended two on-campus celebrations. I was pleased with the newly remodeled bookstore, and enjoyed the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “The Lay of the Land,” sculpted by artist Susan Falkman, was installed just north of the University Center.

I thought you’d be interested in these photos, and I hope you have a chance to stop by the new bookstore and the sculpture.

Start of School 2008-2009

Yesterday, I presented the State of the University address to faculty, staff, community members, and students.  I noted that the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is “on the move,”  stressing the accomplishments of our students, faculty, and staff.

It is an exciting time to be a Warhawk.  With faculty and staff returning to campus this week and with new freshmen moving in today, the campus is coming alive.  While construction projects continue, those who have been away will see that progress has been made.   The bookstore in Moraine Hall has reopened.  The south portion of Wyman Mall is progressing, as is Hyland Hall.  The Multisport complex is progressing, with the field turf project nearly complete.

Yesterday, August 6th, was the Chancellor’s Facilities Picnic at the Coulthart Family Pavilion.  We enjoyed good food and conversation, as well as some nice door prizes.  Thanks to Tara Boyette and the rest of the folks in Human Resources and Diversity for organizing this event.  A special thanks to all the folks who work on our facilities.  The buildings and grounds continue to look wonderful.  When I encounter visitors to the campus, they often comment on the attractiveness of our campus.  Even with our construction challenges and our heating plant incident, the campus is beautiful and exceptionally well cared for.  Thanks again.
