Brian Bredeson

Brian Bredeson

Brian is Associate Director of Career & Leadership Development at UW-Whitewater. He serves students, alumni and employers, and is a liaison to the College of Education & Professional Studies as well as the Science departments on campus. In addition to his career advising and employer relations roles, Brian teaches an Employment Strategies class for Education majors, and supervises the compilation of the department’s Annual Report of Employment & Continuing Education. Prior to working at UW-Whitewater, Brian was the Assistant Director of the Career Center at Washington University in St. Louis.

Brian earned his Master’s degree in Guidance & Counseling from UW-Whitewater and his Bachelor’s degree in Geography/Cartography from UW-Platteville. In his “previous life”, Brian was a Cartographer for the federal government, and possessed a top secret security clearance. His career change was influenced by a two-year volunteer stint at the Gateway Arch in St. Louis.

Jason Brown

Jason Brown

Jason is a Career Counselor with Career & Leadership Development at UW-Whitewater. He serves UWW students and alumni, and is a liaison to the Humanities and Social Sciences. Jason enjoys working with students about topics ranging from career decision-making to job search strategies. Jason also has a developing interest in career assessment and its uses in career counseling.

Jason earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a minor in Psychology from Howard University. He later earned a Master’s of Science in Counseling from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Ron Buchholz

Ron Bucholz

Ron serves as the Director of Career & Leadership Development at UW-Whitewater. Ron works with many employers who recruit UWW students and graduates for employment, and he is passionate helping students prepare to make a successful transition from college to work. 

Ron earned his undergraduate degree from UW-Stevens Point in Psychology and completed his Masters Degree at UW-Whitewater in Counselor Education.

Kathy Craney

Kathy Craney

Kathy is a Career Counselor at the Career & Leadership Development office at UW-Whitewater. She helps UWW students, alumni, and community members with career issues ranging from choosing to using majors and careers. Kathy’s specialties include working with returning adult students and veterans.

Kathy is a member of the Wisconsin Career Development Association, The National Career Development Association, Wisconsin Association of Colleges & Employers (WI-ACE), and the National Association of Colleges & Employers (NACE). Kathy is active on the Campus Degree Completion Action Team, the Veteran’s committee, and the Alcohol and Other Drugs (AODA) coalition.

Kathy earned her undergraduate degree at UW-Stout with a major in Clothing, Textiles and Design and a minor in Psychology. She earned her Master’s degree in Counselor Education at UW-Whitewater.

Frank Lanko

Frank Lanko

Frank serves as the Senior Business Career Advisor within the Career & Leadership Development team at UW-Whitewater. He works with all students and graduates of the College of Business and Economics on career topics ranging from resume building, job search strategy, and interviewing. He also works with employers who recruit UWW students and graduates for employment opportunities.

Frank earned his undergraduate degree from UW-Madison in Marketing and is currently completing a Master’s Degree in Student Affairs Administration from UW-La Crosse.

Heather Schwartz

Heather is a Career Social Media Intern in Career & Leadership Development. She manages the UW-Whitewater Career Facebook Page, and she is developing a UW-Whitewater Career YouTube channel.

Heather is a Public Relations major with a minor in Art Studio and Photography.

Kelsey Welke

Kelsey Welke is a Career Social Media Intern for Career & Leadership Development. She oversees the UWW Career Twitter account and the Career Spotlight Blog. She is a
senior studying International Journalism with a minor in Public Relations.

Kelsey is in Delta Zeta Sorority. She also is a staff photographer for the Royal Purple Newspaper and has been a staff writer for the past two years. Kelsey studied abroad in Dublin, Ireland in Spring 2012.

Laura Jacobs

Laura serves as Career Consultant/Marketing specialist in Career & Leadership Development. She is the primary career advisor for students in the College of Arts & Communication and works with students in that college on a variety of career matters: resume building, interviewing, and job searching. She also teaches Career Information in Arts & Communication, a one-credit course designed to prepare sophomores, juniors, and seniors in the college for their internship and job searches.

Laura serves as the primary author of the UW-Whitewater Internships Blog and is very active on Twitter sharing information about internships. She also oversees the UWW Career social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter, and she supervises the Career Social Media Interns in their work with these accounts.

Laura completed her undergraduate work at UW-Madison with majors in french and political science. She received her master’s degree in counseling from UW-Whitewater.
