As a teacher, you need to be aware and remember the great responsibility that comes with your profession. You need to make a difference in their lives by making them feel special, safe and secure when they are in your classroom. A teacher should bring positive energy into the classroom every single day, while also leaving their personal life outside the classroom. Create standards for your students and for yourself, from the beginning make sure that they know what is acceptable versus what isn’t. Lastly, motivating your students day in and day out is huge. By giving them encouraging comments on their work and throughout the day, they will feel good about themselves and have the ability to try their hardest.
Standard 9 says “Teachers are able to evaluate themselves”. For me, understanding how I teacher is big. I want to be teaching at the highest level possible at all times and i believe the best way to be able to do that is through evaluating myself. There are many ways to do that and in this class the one that stood out to me the most is test scores. By understanding your students’ test scores you can look to see how effective and how good your doing on your teaching. Having done that, you can alter your teaching technique or lesson plan and see how your next class does. Especially being a future Physical Educator, data from skill tests and observations are huge to understanding how good and effective your lesson is and whether or not you got your point across effectively.
Personally i feel that having knowledge on how to use technology in the class room is huge to possibly increasing learning in your classroom. So i plan to take a class that goes about teaching you how to use all sorts of technology to get a step above other people competing for a job. The other digital identity is something I barely have. Thankfully I am not a social media type of person and only have a Facebook that i do not even use anymore. My digital identity is very clean and is something that I would not even have to worry about while applying for a job or during a job interview.
Cyberbullying is not just an interesting topic, but a very important topic. With the small amount that we talked about in class I feel that you always learn more about it, especially since we are learning to be future educators. “Among children, cyberbullying is often connected with tradition bullying: victims of cyberbullying are often also victims of traditional bullying, and bullies have been found to be cyberbullies as well” (Bayraktar, 2015). Thats a problem teachers are having to deal with now, bullies attacking students through the internet. Teachers used to just be able to talk to the students or take them to the principle or counselor to talk about why the bullying is happening. The increase in technology in younger students is leading to bullying happening outside of school since the bully does not have to see their victim. Teachers are unable to see the issue compared to traditional bullying, because the bully attacks their victims emotionally rather than physically. “Cyber victims actually reported that the most intense emotion was sad, followed by rejected” (Gimenez Guild, 2015). By the victims feeling sad and rejected, they could possibly have self-confidence issues and have problem making friends. Teachers need to be constantly educated on the techniques to see cyber bullying. It would help if peers of the victims would say something to adults, but they tend to be bystanders of cyberbullying. I believe that more schools presentations about cyberbullying and how to stop it/ what to do if you see it happening, could lessen the number of cyber bully attacks. It could also allow teachers and administrative members to be informed faster, which would give the victim help and the attacker the punishment that should be handed down. Also it will give both the victim and attacker a chance to get counseling. “First, they can be effective leaders in promoting awareness of cyberbullying and its psychological impact on children and adolescents. Second, school psychologists can assess for prevalence and severity of cyberbullying. Third they can be effective in developing prevention programs designed to address the problem of cyberbullying among school-aged students” (Diamanduros, 2008). If schools can improve on using their resources like psychologists or counselors with cyberbullying in their schools, creating programs for prevention and being able to assess the severity of the cyberbullying that is going on.
I believe there is a correct amount of technology that should be included in the classroom and in a students learning. Too much and students will get distracted, too little and students might not be interested because it is boring. If you can find the right amount, students will be excited to use the technology to and can really impact their learning in a great way. For me when my teacher uses technology, other than a smart board to read off of a powerpoint, I am interested in the material. Thats why i feel that if teachers can find that right amount, it can potentially make a student excited about learning and very interested in the content that is being taught.
In physical education motivation is huge. Motivating your students can lead to your students having more fun doing the activities, excelling more when participating, and finding something they enjoy doing to kick start a healthy lifestyle. I believe that it is a educators job in P.E to always have that enthusiasm so the motivation in the gym never goes away. I plan on using multiple assessments like skill testing, end of unit tests, exit slips for informal assessments, observation by looking at participation and PSR (Personal Social Responsibility). Also i would incorporate projects to check students understanding, because you can’t always grade students on performance and participation. As future educator i would like to always set goals for my classes/students and create goals in between classes to make it a friendly competition. In anything you do, making friendly competitions with others can cause you do perform way better than if there was no competition.
As a future educator i plan on being the one to leave my differences at home. School is not a place for teacher to be enemies or argue, it is a place where all faculty should be working together to enhance the students learning and concentrating on giving each and every student an opportunity to succeed. Being a future P.E teacher, i plan on integrating different cultural games and sports, i want to acknowledge all individual and cultural differences, because that is what great teachers do. I will base instructions and content off different cultures, so i can be prepare for the unexpected. Also i will look at how each student interacts, listens, and comprehend instructions to see if i am making sense to them. I believe i am going to have wide range of races in my classes. The way ill handle that is by making sure i pick at least one game for each race there is, so not only am i having multicultural content, but the students will learn other cultural games and sports.
I’ve seen parents be very active with a child learning at a young age. While i don’t know exactly what they did in terms of learning, their child grew up being one of the smartest in his grade. in my opinion, if parents are really into their child’s learning, it can lead to the student gaining lots of knowledge at a young age. The best part is that while the child continues to grow, so will their knowledge and content because learning new things is something they’re use too doing. It could also be that the child has more knowledge than the average kid and as they grow up kids become more curious which can lead that child to wanting to learn more things due to that curiosity. I can remember as a kid being the one to ask why to about everything. It was mainly because of curiosity, but i gain large amount of knowledge in different areas. The reason i became curious about things is due to the fact that my parents really were interested in my learning before i started school. once i started school, i made friends and what do friends do? they talk. That is probably the quickest young kids learn things is from their peers. I can’t even count how many times in a day that one my friends says something that i didn’t know and next i place it in my content for later and vice versa for my friends.
Hello! My name is Austin Wolf. I am a junior here at UWW and am majoring in Physical Education with a minor in Health. My ideal plan is to graduate and find a job in a high school some where in southeastern Wisconsin. After a few years of working i would like to go and complete graduate school.
During school i have had many wonderful and experienced teachers that truly cared about their job and impacted me as a student and as a future educator. My high school science teacher Mrs. Massey was a teacher that i plan to follow in my future. She taught her class in a way that really allowed her to relate to her students, when she did that, she could use her tools to make the information she was giving fun and interesting towards the students. Students always did well in her class and i believe it because she made a way for each and every student to open their minds and basically want to learn in her class. Mrs. Massey inspired me to become a teacher even more by seeing what a teacher can do when they relate themselves to their students, make class fun and interesting, and seeing the results of students allowing themselves to learn. She is what i would consider a “good” or “great” teacher.
The reason i want to be i PE teacher is that i love sports, i love playing sports with kids and i feel the need to educate students on healthy lifestyles. I feel that its my job to tackle childhood obesity and to give students all the resources and information they need to be healthy and stay active.
