    Freezer Deep Dive!

Had a spare moment this past weekend to try clearing out some of the food that had fallen into the deep abyss of my roommates’ and I’s deep freezer, somehow managing to recover 2 lost pints of ice cream I’d completely forgotten about from this past Spring. First, I found a Talenti Alphonso Mango Sorbetto. Then I found a So Delicious Dairy Free No Sugar Added Butter Pecan Frozen Dessert. I don’t typically buy dairy free frozen desserts, but for about a month last Spring, I tried testing out a dairy free diet. Some individuals who suffer from celiac disease find that going dairy free, in addition to following a…

The 5 Best Frozen Dairy Products You Can Find at the Supermarket

*prices vary by store and location; I’m using Pick ‘n Save store prices as of 11/3/19 for reference (no sale items). Sales tax (estimated) has been included in final prices. It’s starting to get colder out and you know what that means? Absolutely nothing for me, I’ll still be hanging out in the supermarket ice cream aisle browsing the shelves no matter if it’s 80 or -20 degrees outside. I know my local Pick ‘n Save’s frozen novelty and ice cream aisle like the back of my hand, and I’ve decided to take my knowledge and expertise and use it to compile a list of the top 5 frozen dairy…

    My Go-To Ice Cream Sundaes

Since I got diagnosed with celiac disease in 2014, I’ve found that my ice cream preferences have evolved as I became limited in the types of sundaes and custard toppings I could consume. I used to be a huge fan of Mint Oreo®️ sundaes, KitKat®️ and cookie dough toppings, you name it. Once I went gluten free, I started broadening my ice cream horizons and began trying more flavors that incorporated nuts or fruit, which are the main toppings that make up many of my current favorite flavors and sundaes. Nowadays, when none of the nearby establishments’ flavors of the day sound very good or are ones I can’t eat,…

A post shared by à la mode (@alamode_wi) on Oct 8, 2019 at 1:17pm PDT I want to share quick pics of the different flavors and sundaes I get throughout the week, so I thought that I’d add an Instagram feed to this blog! Sometimes, cheap ice cream is better than none…

Yes, a McFlurry is an appropriate choice for breakfast. There’s nothing I love more than fresh, creamy, frozen Wisconsin custard from Oscar’s, Kopps, or Culver’s. But for a broke college student paying for their undergraduate degree entirely out of pocket, I can’t always afford that luxury. Here are my main frozen go-to’s when I’m tight on cash: McDonald’s McFlurry with Reese’s®️ Wendy’s Classic Frosty®️ – Chocolate or Vanilla McDonald’s McFlurry with Reese’s®️ Price: (as of 10/05/19 at my local Whitewater, WI McDonald’s) Snack Size: $2.49 Regular: $3.19 Made with vanilla-flavored soft-serve Contains pieces of Reese’s®️ Peanut Butter Cups Major Pros I’m usually willing to spend up anything under $4 for…

Culver’s Scoopie tokens – The best kind of currency

(This picture was taken AFTER I cashed in 10 of my Culver’s Scoopie tokens this past weekend.) Can we talk about how awesome the freebies you get with a Kids’ meal at Culver’s are?! First and foremost, you get a FREE scoop of ice cream. That already is the main reason as to why I only have ever bought Kids’ meals at Culver’s. Value Baskets? Don’t know her. The kid’s meal really is the best bang for your buck – for $5 you get an entree, a side, free ice cream, and the portions are still enough to fill up an average adult (even my parents get them)! Of course,…

    Welcome to à la mode!

I’m Anna Kugler and this is my Wisconsin ice cream blog! I’m currently a student at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater pursuing a degree in electronic media communication. When I’m not in-class or working, I love to travel around the southeastern Wisconsin area in search of new frozen custard or ice cream flavors and establishments. I practically live off the stuff and am excited to discuss my thoughts and opinions on new flavors, sundaes (and the places you can find these creations), as well as other various topics surrounding these types of dessert. I’ll be posting updates of the different kinds of ice cream I consume during the week, reviewing my…
